Role: SHEQ Manager

Site: Acumen (UK Wide – Various Locations)

Reporting to: Group SHEQ Manager

This position is based at Acumen Waste Servies which is a part of Panda Group.

Acumen specialises in hazardous waste management, from the collection, bulking and transfer to final destinations. Acumen also has an Industrial Services Division, mainly specialising in the use of high-pressure water jetting. Also, heavily involved in waste clearance tasks and projects for the Environment Agency amongst others.

This role requires UK wide travel covering a number of different sites/locations which can vary depending on the projects that the business is undertaking.

 

Key Accountabilities

Reporting to the Group SHEQ Manager, and a key member of the SHEQ Team, SHEQ Manager is primarily responsible for leading and driving a culture which never compromises on the health and safety of employees, contractors, customers, and partners by ensuring the workforce is fully engaged in understanding their responsibilities and empowered to take action when required.

Leading both hands-on and strategic activities, this role requires a mind-set and approach which will continue to bring new levels of thinking, behaviour, and culture.

The role will also be required to continue to develop, build and execute proactive and sustainable hazard risk management systems in line with business objectives in order to monitor safety, health, environmental quality and corporate risk with the ultimate aim of hazard control, zero injuries and autonomous safety.

 This is a hands-on role that requires the SHEQ Manager to be visible on sites working with Site Leaders, Manager and Supervisors promoting a positive safety culture.

Taking our people on a positive safety journey is crucial and the SHEQ Manager must be a self-driven individual that is not afraid to use their initiative and raise standards through reporting and direct communication driving accountability, transparency and awareness.

 

 Key Responsibilities

• Work under the direction of the Group SHEQ Manager to achieve business objectives

• Ensure visible felt leadership on site

• Daily walks of sites and plants are required to ensure a SHEQ presence is felt

• Raising and reporting Hazards, Incidents and Threats (HITS) and supporting sites and Departments with close out

• Liaise with Regulatory bodies and facilitate site inspections whilst building positive relationships with the Regulator and other interested parties

• Lead three stage investigations and formulate investigation teams and track to close out

• Maintaining incident reporting data to ensure corrective actions are implemented, and records are completed thoroughly and timely

• Ensure SHEQ procedures and systems are implemented across the business, are fully understood by competent follow-up to allow all relevant legislation to be complied with

• Implement safety policies and programs, including training programs, processes and procedures

• Joining and leading weekly site tours and promoting inclusion from others in the business to join from other Departments

• Monitoring and analysing accident and incident trends and causation and ensuring training and controls are implemented to reduce incidents and drive down risk

• Assist and to Implement and drive plans for SHEQ related activities that develop the service to meet current and future needs of the business and ensure the organisation achieves excellent levels of health, safety and environmental performance

• Ensure all accidents, incidents, near misses and non-conformities are correctly reported and investigated in accordance with company procedure

• Effectively maintain accident report files, incident files, accident investigations, corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence, and other related safety concerns

• Produce weekly and monthly reports from the health & safety and environment department with regards to the performance of the sites you cover

• Promote our vision and values to internal and external stakeholders, for SHEQ

• Develop a relationship with the direct line operational leaders, contribute to functional developments to ensure full compliance of the business with Group requirements

• Develop and maintain the business unit’s management systems and document control

• Review and create necessary SHEQ documents

• Organise external surveys and assessments when required ensuring records of corrective action

• Liaise with operational teams to ensure training via is kept up to date for internal/external

• Manage the contractor control database ensuring all documents are maintained

• Manage the off-taker waste destination list ensuring all documents are maintained

• Undertake Core and Comprehensive audits

• Support with the creation of training documents

• Support the business with site PQQ’s questionnaires and tenders SHEQ Questions

• Facilitate and support ISO Audits for sites

 

Training/ Qualifications

• 2+ years’ experience in a similar role with demonstrable experience, other experience will be considered

• Qualified to NEBOSH General Certificate willingness to learn and progress to NEBOSH Diploma 

• Understanding of ISO Standards with auditing experience

• Experience of managing several sites with demonstrable leadership which ensures cohesive policy implementation and proactive business support

• Experience of developing and implementing meaningful SHEQ KPI’s, targeting key areas of improvement, enabling the ability to celebrate success

• Experience of dealing with regulatory bodies stakeholders and external clients

• A highly capable communicator able to deliver your message across all levels effectively, achieving buy in

• Excellent communications and decision-making skills

• Self-motivated and confident with good presenting skills

• Strong Microsoft Office skills

• Full Driving Licence
