About the Role

Skip and RoRo Operations Manager

Reports to: General Manager

Lead the operation. Keep collections moving. Deliver reliable service.

Panda is looking for a Skip and RoRo Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day delivery of our skip and roll-on roll-off services.

You’ll manage drivers, transport planning and fleet resources to ensure deliveries, exchanges and collections are completed safely, efficiently and in line with customer requirements. Alongside service delivery, you’ll take responsibility for operational P&L, cost control, compliance and team performance.

As Skip and RoRo Operations Manager, you’ll maintain a visible presence across the operation, setting clear standards and resolving issues before they affect service.

What you’ll do

  • Lead daily operations: Oversee skip and RoRo deliveries, exchanges and collections, ensuring work is planned effectively and completed to agreed service levels.
  • Manage planning and resources: Match drivers, vehicles and container availability to customer demand, responding to changing priorities and operational pressures.
  • Own financial performance: Manage the operational P&L, budgets and costs, improving productivity, vehicle utilisation and profitability.
  • Lead your team: Manage and develop drivers and operational staff, setting clear expectations around safety, conduct, attendance and service.
  • Maintain transport compliance: Act as a named Transport Manager on the company’s Operator’s Licence, overseeing compliance with licence requirements, drivers’ hours, working time and relevant transport legislation.
  • Drive safe working: Maintain high standards of health, safety and waste compliance, including safe loading, load security and the safe placement and collection of skips and RoRo containers.
  • Keep assets working: Coordinate vehicle maintenance, inspections and defect resolution with workshop and compliance teams, while managing skip and container availability and condition.
  • Resolve service issues: Take ownership of missed collections, delays and customer escalations, working with Sales, Customer Service and operational colleagues to provide practical solutions.
  • Monitor and improve performance: Track service, cost, fleet, safety and compliance KPIs, using the results to improve planning and operational delivery.

What you’ll bring

  • Experience managing skip and RoRo operations, with an understanding of the practical demands of deliveries, exchanges and collections.
  • A Transport Manager CPC and willingness to be named on the company’s Operator’s Licence.
  • Strong knowledge of transport legislation, drivers’ hours, working time and fleet compliance.
  • Experience leading drivers and operational teams, including managing performance, attendance and conduct.
  • Experience managing budgets, controlling costs and delivering against P&L targets.
  • An understanding of health, safety and waste compliance within a transport operation.
  • Strong planning and problem-solving skills, with the ability to respond calmly to changing demands.
  • Confidence using transport management, planning and reporting systems.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with customers, colleagues and suppliers.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Additional qualifications such as IOSH, First Aid or ADR awareness would be an advantage.
